DAWN DRIVE MEDIAN

August 28 2021 - This is the Median on Dawn across the street from the LVES. Shown above is before (left) and after photos (right). Kay Schneider has taken on this bed that has been overgrown and has done a great job with a little help in cleaning it up. She will be adding more plants to these beds when the weather cools down a bit. She is another member that has been bringing water to her adopt a spot and watering by the bucketful. We are glad to say she now has water to her beds. I can't wait until the weather cools down to see what she does with these beds. She has even had to fight in the last month with bugs and has won the war against them.

DAWN DRIVE CIRCLE

Sept 27 2022  The maintenance work is endless.  Denise  sends a shout-out to the hard workers who helped clean up the sage across from the circle on Dawn Drive.  Photo shows Janice, Gianna, Denise and Julie who, with Dan Sellers, completed the job.

2018 Wind Spiral

Picture
It all began, like many of our projects, as an idea brought up at a KLVB meeting. The Dawn Drive Traffic Circle (DDTC) had long been neglected. It was said that years ago there was a gas flame feature at the DDTC, but it had not operated for many years. The KLVB thought was that the DDTC was a scenic spot within our City and wouldn't it be nice to pursue a renovation of the area. After much discussion a preliminary design was put together. At the time, KLVB was wanting to introduce local art into our City and the idea of a wind spiral was brought forward.

When the landscape/wind spiral final design was complete, it was time to propose our idea to the City. It just so happened that the City had just hired a new City Manager, Josh Ray, and he was very excited about the project. After some discussion, Josh was on board and gave KLVB permission to renovate and maintain DDTC.

After much research, West Shore Wind Spirals was discovered and KLVB made a trip to their studio. Upon meeting the artist and his wife, Ralph and Annette Moresco, and making a tour of their studio, we were immediately impressed and made our purchase that day. As the saying goes, after that day "the rest is history".

KLVB cleaned out the old remains of the gas flame feature and the overgrown vegetation. The soil was amended and new native and adapted native plants were installed. Also, an underground drip irrigation system was installed. The City was eager to help as well in the renovation and KLVB had them set the pole for the wind spiral and perform some needed concrete and masonry work. Lastly, KLVB pressure washed all the concrete and masonry surfaces.

Today KLVB maintains the landscaping, while the City continues to keep the grass mowed.
