November 5th, 2022
by Jessica Good
Saturday, November 5th was the Inaugural Waterway Cleanup and Potluck for KLVB. We had a total of twelve volunteers that came out to Bar K Park for the event! We even gained 2 new members through the event.
Keep Lago Vista Beautiful is a growing Keep Texas Beautiful Gold Star Affiliate and is open to all to join. Litter cleanup is only one of the wonderful things to engage the community and new members are always welcome.
This clean-up was a huge success. We gathered 46 bags of trash around the waterways of Greenshore, Bar K Park, and the Marina. In addition, half of a truck full of metal was collected and donated for reuse! We also were able to join our friends for a delicious Potluck!
There's always new and exciting projects going on at KLVB! Keep an eye on this page or call me. Be sure and join us next time!

La Primavera Pickup March 4, 2022

Fourteen volunteers picked up 42 bags of litter before this weekend's La Primavera Bicycle Race. 2022 marked the 30th anniversary of this race, which has been held in Lago Vista since 1991, when Lance Armstrong won the very first competition. Thank you to the citizens of Lago for supporting and helping make this race happen for so long!
ADOPT - A - STREET
A Texas-size thank you to 154 Lago Vista Citizens - adopting 127 street sections!!
Pitch in to keep Lago Vista beautiful. Join the Lago Litter Challenge and adopt a street in your neighborhood. More than one hundred of our neighbors have already adopted streets. We still have orphan streets that need some love. If you would like to adopt a street join the #lagolitterchallenge Facebook Group and leave a comment with the street you want to adopt. Or, contact Jessica Good at jessica.good8@gmail.com
LITTER FACT: If every person in Texas picked up just two pieces of trash every month, our streets and highways would be completely litter-free in just one year!!

Happy July 4 2021 from Keep Lago Vista Beautiful!
A considerable amount of litter was collected after the Lago Vista 4th of July Parade, ensuring that
the Dawn Drive boulevard would be clean and tidy for the next day's traffic.

Happy July 4 2021 from Hollie and Ryder!!
Let's join forces in keeping Lago Vista Beautiful- my son Ryder started something fun a couple years ago called the #LagoLitterChallenge. You grab a bag, go for a walk & pick up whatever trash you see along the way. Then take a photo & post it; encouraging your friends & neighbors to partake also. In our house, the phrase "be the change you wish to see" is used often, I think is important to teach our children that even just one little person can make a HUGE difference & impact on others & our earth with their actions.

LAGO ISSUES LITTER CHALLENGE
LITTER FACT:
Approximately 435 million pieces of visible litter
accumulate on Texas roadways each year.
Approximately 435 million pieces of visible litter
accumulate on Texas roadways each year.
One of the most common pieces of litter is paper products. A considerable amount of paper litter in Lago Vista comes from recycle cart spillage during collection. Our recycle material is not bagged like our trash. When the carts are picked up lightweight loose pieces can fall out and are carried by the wind to litter our streets and roads. Overfilling recycle carts is a common cause of spills. Cart lids should be tightly closed as shown above. Other ways to avoid spillage is to avoid putting separate small pieces of paper into the cart. Put small pieces of paper in recycled envelops. Break down cardboard boxes. Put shredded paper in paper bags. Finally, check the area and pick up and spilled items. If we all accept the Lago Litter Challenge we can reduce unsightly litter and Keep Lago Vista Beautiful.
Neither Sleet nor Mud nor Snow
Shall Stay the KLVB Litter Patrol
On Friday February 26 2021, fifteen hardy KLVB volunteers deployed, grabbers in hand, to reduce litter in Lago Vista. This event had been postponed from the previous week (due to the Arctic Blast), but it was a still a wet, muddy job! After the event, Keep Lago Vista Beautiful President Denise Sellers said “I want to thank each one of these great volunteers who came out on Friday to pick up litter and make Lago Vista a little bit cleaner.”
Frank Coletta, KLVB’s Adopt-A-Street Coordinator, organized the volunteers into small groups that completed the pickup in just two hours. Streets cleaned were all of Dodge Trail and portions of Outpost Trace, Paseo de Vaca, Boggy Ford. and Highland Lakes. The litter filled eighteen large trash bags along with other debris. Nips and bottles, cans and lottery tickets, masks and Styrofoam cups, even full beers were to be found, carelessly tossed aside as if the whole world is someone’s trash can. Really?!
Don’t be a litterer! Be an anti-litterer! KLVB’s anti-litter programs include the Lago Litter Challenge and Adopt-A-Street. Check out any of our online presences or contact Frank Coletta at coletta_j@msn.com for more information. And then join us! KLVB meets on the second Thursday of each month at 2 p.m. Like us on Facebook, visit www.klvb.org or call President Denise Sellers at 512-467-4582 for more information.

LIONS LOVE LAGO
Every other month the Lions Club of Lago Vista volunteers pick up 3.5 miles of Lohman's Ford Road from FM 1431 to Boggy Ford Road. During a typical pickup 8 volunteers picked up 15 bags of trash in 11 hours. Multiply 15 bags by 6 times per year... and that comes to a whole lotta trash on just that short stretch of highway. Recently, Lions participating while social distancing were: Frank Robbins, Mike Zaydel, Pat and Ted Rosen, Jeff Kobie, Pat Evans, Pete Pfile, and Mike Beal. Thank you Lions for keeping Lago Vista clean so faithfully!
