Solar lights illuminate the statue at night giving another dimension to GLEE

On November 23, 2020, Keep Lago Vista Beautiful volunteers brought “GLEE” to light in Lago Vista.  The 7’ foot stainless steel figure, arms and leg joyfully upraised, has been installed in the green space between City Hall and the Library.  In the words of artist Cindy Debold of Lago Vista, “GLEE represents the universal feeling of extreme happiness”.  She continues “My goal with her was to find the essence of the emotion using simplified body language.  Even just getting in this pose can make you feel good.  And consider walking around the stainless-steel sculpture just to see how the reflections change with the light.”

GLEE is the 2nd in what is hoped to be a number of public art installations around Lago Vista.  (The first is the wind spiral on Dawn Drive Circle.)  There has always been a desire on the part of Keep Lago Vista Beautiful to bring public art to the City.  Instrumental in bringing Glee to its current location was former President of KLVB and Councilmember, Frank Robbins, and his wife.  Jan Robbins was acquainted with Debold, a nationally-known artist who resides in Lago Vista.  In 2019, GLEE was on loan at a Georgetown public art installation.  The exuberant message of the piece, combined with its local roots, inspired the Robbins to work on bringing this art home to Lago Vista.    For several months, as work continued in the green space between City Hall and the Library, GLEE awaited her turn to shine.  But now GLEE is on full display, just in time for Christmas. This is thanks to the hardworking volunteers of KLVB and members of City Staff.  City Manager Josh Ray, who is a supporter of art in public places, said recently, “Coming back into the office this morning I was excited to be welcomed by my dear friend Glee”.  He continued “She looks great!”

The Artist Cindy Debold says “All my artwork deals with my interests in either psychology, the emotions, body language or symbolism.”  For over 30 years, she has been interpreting these themes in paint, clay, plaster, concrete, wood, bronze, stone and stainless steel.  Of GLEE Ms. Debold says, “Besides the stainless-steel medium visually adding to depth to the piece, the reflections also symbolize how happiness radiates out to those around it, and the see-through heart represents how true love has nothing to hide.”   In 2005 when she and her husband chose Lago Vista for their home, it was because of the inspiring sunset views as well as the space to have her studio.  She has exhibited in California, Washington DC, and around Texas.  Currently you can see Ms. Debold’s work in Marble Falls, Salado, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Jonestown, Fredericksburg, and now Lago Vista.

Work in Progress

Keep Lago Vista Beautiful volunteers continue to address the shady greenspace between City Hall and the Library.  The first picnic table, purchased with a grant from the Lago Vista Women's Club, was joined by a second table from KLVB funds.  We eagerly await placement of the first sculpture, Cindy Debold's "Glee"!!
